Dr. Anne M. Magro
Professor of Accounting and Dean of the College of Business, Innovation, Leadership and Technology, Marymount University

Dr. Anne M. Magro currently serves as Professor of Accounting and Dean of the College of Business, Innovation, Leadership and Technology at Marymount University. She joined Marymount in May 2024. Under her leadership at Marymount, the college has developed a strategic plan focused on growth, innovation, and community engagement; redesigned the school’s leadership and staff structure; and developed new infrastructure to support student and faculty success.

Prior to joining Marymount, Dr. Magro served 17 years in the Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University. At the Costello College, she served 16 years in leadership roles including a year as Interim Dean and four years as Deputy Dean and Senior Associate Dean for Strategy and Impact. She remains Associate professor Emerita at George Mason University and previously served on the faculties of University of Texas – Austin, University of Oklahoma, and Rutgers University.

Dr. Magro has extensive experience in successfully developing new curricula programs, and centers, including an innovative redesign of an undergraduate business curriculum to introduce an interdisciplinary Business Foundations core focused on the social, global, professional, legal, and decision-making contexts of business on which the technical business core and concentrations build. She has been recognized for growing enrollments, increasing revenues, and playing an integral role in advancement successes for her institutions. Her Business for a Better World Initiative and Center she co-founded and led with Dr. Lisa Gring-Pemble received the 2018 AACSB Innovations That Inspire Award. 

 

Dr. Magro has served in leadership roles in international education organizations including as the inaugural President of the Leadership in Accounting Education section of the American Accounting Association (AAA) and on the boards of Mason Korea LLC; Federation of Schools of Accountancy; American Taxation Association; and numerous sections of the American Accounting Association. Dr. Magro also has been involved with the international business education community through the Academy of Business in Society; the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative, including as a member of the Deans & Directors Cohort; and UN Global Compact’s Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) Initiative, including as a PRME Champion and as a member of the PRME Advisory Council. 

 

Dr. Magro is a recognized leader in research in her field with a focus on the cognition, judgment, and decision-making of accountants and users of accounting information, especially tax professionals. She has published in the top journals in her field including The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Journal of the American Taxation Association. Dr. Magro also has served as editor at Journal of the American Taxation Association and Behavioral Research in Accounting as well as on the editorial boards of The Accounting Review, Journal of the American Taxation Association, and other journals. Dr. Magro has been the recipient of multiple teaching, research, and service awards including recognition as the EY Outstanding Tax Educator from the American Taxation Association.
