Q&A with Lisa
Tell us about your role at MTSI and the path that led you there.
As CIO my scope of influence covers data, cloud, cyber, hardware, IT support and AI innovation. I have been in technology since 1989, but have an extremely diverse background. Throughout my career, I have worked across multiple disciplines and industries, which has given me a unique perspective on how technology can enable business transformation. Rather than viewing technology as a support function, I see it as a strategic driver of innovation, efficiency, and growth.
My journey to the CIO role was shaped by a willingness to continually learn, embrace new challenges, and lead through periods of rapid change. Along the way, I have had the opportunity to build high-performing teams, modernize technology platforms, strengthen cybersecurity programs, advance data-driven decision making, and champion emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
What made you want to join the GO Virginia Northern Region Council?
I have a passion for workforce development and the long-term success of our region. I was also eager to learn more about state government and its processes, particularly how partnerships and public policy can be leveraged to create opportunities and drive positive outcomes for the communities we serve.
Which regional GO Virginia investment are you most excited about, and why?
The Virginia Quantum Hub at George Mason University. Quantum computing is exactly the kind of high-growth, high-wage industry that can benefit Northern Virginia. Five localities, three school divisions, and a coalition of industry partners came together behind this project. The jobs and investment from the quantum revolution are going to land somewhere, and this grant helps make sure Northern Virginia doesn't miss its moment.
What do you enjoy most about living and working in Northern Virginia?
I think the family ties. I raised my two sons here and my parents are retired in Leesburg. NOVA offers so many opportunities, not only for careers but for culture, food, nature, and education. I love NOVA and hope I can afford to stay here in retirement!
What is the best advice you've ever received?
Be nice. Assume positive intent, and always give people the opportunity to do the right thing. Throughout your career, focus on building pillars of goodwill. Every act of kindness, trust, and respect strengthens those pillars and leaves a trail of positive energy throughout your journey. When challenges arise, that goodwill becomes a source of support and resilience. It gives you the courage to take risks, tackle difficult problems, and pursue opportunities that may seem impossible or intimidating.
When you're not at work, how do you like to spend your time?
I love spending time with my family, playing pickleball and golf, enjoying a good glass of red wine, and spending time with my big dogs!
